Comings & Goings

August saw a flying visit from CEO Paula Murphy to present outgoing REO Chris Jamieson with an “Acknowledgement of Service” Certificate, and pin the badge of office on new REO Angela McDonagh. Warm words of appreciation from Heather Carine and a bouquet of flowers, expressed our gratitude to Chris for her commitment and dedication over the past three years.

Regional President Judith Wiseman completed her term of office and Lola Hede was elected Regional President.

Regional Luncheon  “The Great Outdoors”
As we entered the Function Room at Sunnybrae Farm on Sunday 10th July, and mingled with others as they arrived, delightful outback scenes were being projected on to a screen by Trevor, husband of our Penguin Club Regional President Judith Wiseman. The topic for the day was "The Great Outdoors".

Community Engagement
Plain English Speaking Award
Over 100 people attend the State final on July 22nd at Legacy House Adelaide. Winner Nick Banks from Concordia College spoke on “Hope in Adversity” as experienced in such tragedies as the Australian bushfires and floods. Nick went on to represent SA at the national finals in Sydney where he was named Runner Up. Congratulations Nick and special thanks to State Coordinator and Penguin club member Julie Gameau who continues to work tirelessly, to ensure this event is a success.

Reedbeds Community Centre Open Day: Saturday September 3rd
Bright orange T shirts caught the eye of all who entered and were a clear signal for traffic to pause at the Penguin Club stand. The big smiles and friendly attention resulted in several very promising contacts. Well done to all those who volunteered their time, stopped the traffic and got our name out!

South Australia’s Strategic Plan (State Government)
The Penguin Club of Australia SA Inc is an Alliance Member of the SA Strategic Plan and has contributed towards SA achieving Plan targets and actions. In particular, this has been achieved through our program for women from refugee backgrounds. Our story can be found in: “Our Plan Our Action - showcasing success”. This inaugural publication highlights selected Alliance members and government agencies. Out of a total of 55 stories submitted, we were one of the 23 to be chosen for publication. COMING EVENTS

EVERY GENERATION FESTIVAL takes off in October, bringing the community together in a celebration of life. This year Brighton, City, Campbelltown, Glenelg, Onkaparinga and Strathalbyn Groups are hosting events and there will be A free public workshop: “Are you tongue tied and terrified?” facilitated by Jan Sim and her team. This will further expose our friendly club to the wider community and demonstrate that skills learnt can be translated into work and community life.

Well done everyone for taking the initiative, signing up for the Festival and giving women in our community the opportunity to discover the Penguin Club.
